Hi, my name is Bill (you all know me as HybridTheory), and I am addicted to Fantasy Football. It started innocently enough back in 1999. I was fresh out of college and absolutely loved football, so I got involved in a league and really didn’t do much preparation. I had been in a few leagues before, but it never really clicked. I read some articles, got some cheat-sheets and dove in head first. I took Edgerrin James with pick 1.07 and even after everyone made fun of me for taking a rookie, I was the one laughing at the end of the year. I won, and let me tell you, I didn’t realize just how addicted I was. My problem has only grown deeper throughout the years. Soon I was in 2 – 3 leagues a year, until now I am around 14 leagues, I think. Dynasty, Auction, Re-Draft, Survivor, Cutthroat….you name it, I just can’t get enough. I don’t even play “free” leagues anymore; I don’t have time for that childish nonsense.
There are many signs of addiction, so let me point out a few for you. If you find yourself in Church checking out the injury report and subsequently changing your lineups using your internet friendly phone while the pastor is talking, that’s a pretty good sign you might have a problem. When you are with your kids at a Pumpkin Patch in October having fun riding hay rides, and all that good stuff, and you are texting up to 8 different people in various leagues about trades you want to make before the deadline tomorrow, that is another sign of a brewing problem. When you stay awake at night because you are having a hard time deciding if you should spend over $60 on a QB in a $500 cap auction league that is yet another sign of a potential problem. When your son (who is 7) is watching pre-season football with you and says “Larry Johnson looks a lot better than last year, I bet you will draft him higher this year”, that’s a good sign that you may have reached the need for FFA (Fantasy Football Anonymous). Although that instance did make me smile. Many people sit on the couch watching Football on Sunday, but do you sit there with your laptop with multiple tabs open to every league you own just waiting for someone to seriously get injured so you can pick up that players back-up? Turns out that everyone else at my Sister’s barbeque doesn’t really care if Steve Smith just beat the crap out of one of his teammates. Yet for some reason, it is a very valuable piece of information for me. When your main reason for having a Blackberry is so you can get live streaming information on your Fantasy teams even while you are on vacation in Cancun, that probably signals that you might need some help.

Position Battle 1 - Ravens
Reports out of Ravens camp is that Mark Clayton is playing with the first team offense right now. Demetrius currently is injured from what I have read its nothing serious but its opening the door for Clayton. I just keep remembering how everyone was saying this kid is going to be so good in the NFL. I have not seen it at all he was drafted in the first round in 2005 (yeah that was along time ago) and he has a total of 159 grabs and 7 tds, to me those stats belong to a 4-5 round pick in 2005. Can you blame it on the QB, can you blame it on him having off the field issues with his wife or maybe blame it on him being a first round bust?

5 Card River - NFC West
Fantasy Football 5 Card River Hand 2008
- NFC West Division
* Rankings based on my rankings as of today
I chose the "5 Card River Hand" as a title because I think if you stick with some of these players in your fantasy league you may end up in a damn good spot come playoff weeks or you may say what was Mike talking about non of these guys caught on.
River in No Limit Hold em is the final down card in a hand. That some people get lucky and catch a card for the winning hand.
San Francisco 49er's
- Bryant Johnson - Its tuff to say that Johnson is going to be a threat without seeing him in a few games but this guy has probably taken the #1 spot in SF. That does not say a huge amount about it look up Darrel Jackson and his numbers from last season to seasons prior but it does say the 9ers saw something in him. I would not risk a high round draft pick on him but from what I have seen from him in the past he can be a damn good player in the NFL. Could end up being a very good #2 wide receiver. Ranked no. 47 on my board for WR's
- Vernon Davis - This is the year that Vernon can be a player or he can be moved to another team. Vernon has huge potential and I have always ranked him higher than I should just because the guy has freaky size and speed and can be the best in the league if he keeps his head in the game. Ranked no.5 on my board for TE's
St. Louis Rams
- Drew Bennett - Slides into the #2 spot in St Louis this season with Bruce heading to the west. He showed that he could be a player in Ten. a few years back but seems to always be injured or no where to be found. If he wants to be a player he is going to have his chance this season to do it. With Holt next to him the double teams are not going to be there and if he gets the targets he can be a huge threat this season. Ranked no. 51 on my board for WR's will be moving up I believe in the next week or so.
Arizona Cardinals
- Matt Leinart - I am not a fan AT ALL of the party animal but with Fitzgerald and Boldin with a pretty good line and a decent RB behind him there is no reason he should not be a good QB. If he can stay healthy he could be the dark horse for come back player of the year. Ranked no. 25 on my QB board.
Seattle Seahawks
- Julius Jones - I kept looking over and over and over the Hawks offense and just could not put my finger on a guy that stood out greatly. Mainly because I think they are established enough to be ok. Julius Jones was the only player that I can see being a huge factor and really the only way the Hawks get back to the playoffs. He fits the system pretty well and he wont be ruled by someone that does not like him to begin with, he will be the man he was coming out of college. I see some good things coming from Jones but not anything close to top 10 #s in fact he is rated 26 on my draft board.

V1 Rookie Mock Draft
NLS Rookie Mock Draft V1
NLS staff and members sat down for a 2 round fantasy football rookie mock draft. Trying to base this on this years rookie players opposed to keeper league players. We found out that it was harder then it looks.
ROUND 1
Pick / Member / Player / Position / Team
1. Carnage / Darren McFadden / RB / Oakland Raiders
He's the number one in just about every fantasy draft out there. He will be a top 15 back right out of the gate, possibly better.
2. mjsmooth21 / Jonathan Stewart / RB / Carolina Panthers
He has the size and speed to be a successful NFL RB, not to mention he runs low to the ground and has great lateral moves when taking on would be tacklers. He will split some carries with Deangelo Williams but Carolina drafted Stewart here to be the primary ball carrier of the two. I believe Carolina is this coming years NFC South rebound team, and Stewart will lead all rookies in 2008 in rushing yardage.
3. JABarwick / Kevin Smith / RB / Detroit Lions
Smith is the perfect compliment runner to Tatum Bell. History has shown us that Bell is much better as a #2 or a committee back. Smith will not only be the power runner inside but will also surprise many by how well he catches the ball. You can expect him to be the goal line back as well. He is the clear choice behind McFadden and Stewart.
4. BCZAR / Felix Jones / RB / Dallas Cowboys
To start Jones will get playing time from day 1 by Running Back By Committee is going to be the case no matter which rookie you choose but Jones has good speed and a great system. Barber will get the bulk of the TDs at the start but Barber was not the current coaches pick. I think Jones have more home run potential.

Game 2 From and Indians Fan
GAME 2 - INDIANS 7 -VS- WHITE SOX 2
Mr. Carmona left off where he ended the regular season last year with another dominating performance. Going 7 Innings giving up 4 hits, 1 run, and striking out 4 with the weather cold he did end up walking 4 white sox batters. The sinker was on though as 16 of his 21 outs were grounders and 4 K's? damn thats not to shabby if you ask me. A guy that never grounds into dplays Jim Thome had 2 of the three for the sox.
Grady Sizmore was clutch again going 3-4 with 3 of the Indians 7 Rbi's if the offense can keep producing and the pitching staff stays healthy this is going to be a good year.
Some Pictures from the game. Sizemore, Cabrera, Carmona, and Dye

Cleveland Indians Home Opener
Well another spring errr winter day in Cleveland where the weather could be a little better than last years 12' of snow. I am sure the snow plows and bulldozers are lined up in front of the Jake. Damn the Jake is gone is it me or does the name Progressive Field bother the hell out of you? What are we going to call it the Prog or the Stadium next to the Q the "P"? It sure is weird that they changed the name but almost the whole team is back from last year.
Is it the year the Indians win the world series? I don't know but it better be the year we dominate the AL Central. With the pitching the Tribe has with a healthy and mentally stable Cliff Lee the Indians rotation can end up being the best in Baseball having the Cy Young winner in Sabathia, Fausto Carmona being in the running for CY Young as well, The Roid man oops Byrd Man as the 3, Jake Westbrook and Cliff Lee that staff can dominate games. How long ago was it that Cliff Lee was the #2 behind Sabathia? Yeah not very long.
With this pitching staff and a very good or maybe an even better than good starting lineup this team is on the road to being the best team in baseball this season.
The Tribe goes into the Prog (yuck I hate the name) with CC on the bump going up against a fellow lefty in Mark Beurhle who usually kills the Indians. But my friends Mr.. Beurhle is tiring and I just do not see much left in the tank. Tribe wins 5-2 in a great start by Sabathia. Watch for Mark to go through the Indians lineup with relative ease but he will get uncomfortable going back through the lineup.
Another season about to start up and I have my tribe winning 94-100 games this year and yes winning the world series. Go Tribe!!

Mikes Mock V1
- Get the rest by clicking on the title of this article
- Vernon Gholston (OLB/DE), Please sound the trade horn now…… Please…… Thank you I do not see them sitting here and taking a player. Been reading all over that they are going to take Mike Jenkins the corner from South Florida but I do not understand that at all. When has the last rookie that started for the Pats? Exactly. But Mike they may loose Samuel to free agency? Ok so that should change there whole philosophy yeah no, they get a great pass rusher in Gholston the best player on the board and come out very well.
- Baltimore Ravens – Mike Jenkins (CB), With this Defense being as old as it is they need to work on it and they get a pretty damn good corner in Jenkins. Should fit right in and start by the end of the season with the injury prone corners in Bmore.
- Cincinnati Bengals – Dan Conner (LB), I know there was not a jail bird or criminal at this spot that I noticed so I went with a guy that is not ever going to be in trouble. May not be that flashy pick but this kid is going to be good. I am sure most Cincy fans wanted Dorsey or Ellis but I do not think either will make it down this far.
- New Orleans Saints – Keith Rivers (LB), The Linebacker play was not horrid last season but they just did not have the play maker on defense. Rivers could be that guy.
- Buffalo Bills – Malcolm Kelly (WR), Big receiver will go over the middle and bring the ball in. Would have went with Mario here but the Bills already have that burner and I think an over the middle guy would be a better fit.
- Denver Broncos - Ryan Clady (OT), Unusual because the last few years it never seemed like the Broncos needed anything except WR this year they need to fill both sides of the line. Clady is there guy.
- Carolina Panthers – Kenny Phillips (S), Do the Panthers has Safety’s? do they play them in there packages? Kenny will help out the middle greatly.
- Chicago Bears – Jeff Otah (OT), Could the reason why the Bears stunk up the joint this past season? Could have been Otah will help this aging line and bring them back to where they need to be.
- Detroit Lions – Leodis McKelvin (CB), In need of something in the secondary the Lions go after the best defensive back available. Maybe going defense will help the Lions improve. Really thought about going RB here but just do not think they will pull that string yet.
- Arizona Cardinals – Jonathan Stewart (RB), Edge needs to take a load of his shoulders and have some one come in and fill in to give him a break. Stewart will prove to be a good back in this league and would fit nicely in Arizona.
- Minnesota Vikings – Limas Sweed (WR), Thrilled that he dropped all the way down to this spot the Vikes take the best WR left and the biggest play maker possibly in the draft. Sweed is going to be a good one for someone.
- Houston Texans – Reshard Mendanhall (RB), My thinking was to not overload this mock with runningbacks but to be honest a lot of teams need them and this is a deep draft. Mendanhall will be a nice back running in Houston.
- Philadelphia Eagles – Desean Jackson (WR), The most polished WR in the draft? I am not sure but he can do multiple things and looks like he can be a play maker receiving and rturning kicks
- Tampa Bay Buccaneers – Chris Williams (OT), They need to do something with that line and they do it with Williams. May not be a starter in year one but will turn into something after this year.
- Washington Redskins – Derrick Harvey (DE), Who was the Skins leading sack artist this season? Yeah Andre Carter but who was behind him or next to him or anywhere to be found? Yeah not very many. Harvey will be a nice compliment to Carter.
- Dallas Cowboys – Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie (CB), I am not completely sold they need another corner I think its more of a safety need but Cromartie could end up being a special talent for the Boys.
- Pittsburgh Steelers – Sam Baker (OT), Pleasantly surprised Baker is still around at this point the Steelers quickly get to the podium and select there future right or left tackle Sam Baker. Great addition.
- Tennessee Titans – Earl Doucet (WR), They need something for Vince and Doucet is a decent guy left and should help Vince get farther into the playoffs for years to come.
- Seattle Seahawks – Felix Jones (RB), Have you heard of him? Well he was Mcfadden;s helper in Arkansas and I think he could end up being better than Darren at the end of both of there careers. Shaun Alexander is about done.
- Jacksonville Jaguars – Fred Davis (TE), Lets face it Mercedes is more like a Kia. Garrard needs a guy to be able to dump the ball off to and Davis is that guy. Pretty good hands and is the best TE in the draft this season.
- San Diego Chargers – Kentwan Balmer (DL), Williams was hurt a lot of the season and there really is nothing behind him. Balmer is the best lineman for a 3-4 defensive scheme left.
- Dallas Cowboys – Gosder Cherilus (OT), Need to get younger at offensive Line, Cherilus helps them out in that category.
- San Francisco 49ers – Mario Manningham (WR), Mike Martz just wet himself he gets a you guessed it a WR in the first round and one that fits his system. Mario will be a good deep threat WR and will thrive if he learns Martz’s system
- Green Bay Packers –Aqib Talib (DB), Seems like the Pack is always drafting DB’s in the first round doesn’t it? Yeah it does but how many of them are good? Yeah not many Talib is going to be a good one and will fit in with the young crowd in Green Bay
- New York Giants – Ali Highsmith (LB), They get enough pressure from the Defensive line imagine adding in Highsmith a fast outside Linebacker. Could make this team defense even better next season.

Martellus Bennet TE
Bennett is highly regarded as the top TE in the 2008 class. He is the ultimate blocking/catching TE. He prides himself on blocking, and it shows. He is also an excellent receiver with 105 receptions and 10 TD’s over his 3 years at A&M. Most scouts grade him in the 1st round, but unsure if he will actually be taken in their or if he will slip to the 2nd. He is very raw, but has shown the skill and the determination to become an elite TE. He will be fighting it out with the likes of Martin Rucker and Fred Davis come draft day, but Bennett gives teams a TE who could be the complete package with a little work.

San Diego Chargers -vs- New England Patriots
Many NFL fans were anxiously awaiting this year’s AFC championship game as a continuation of the intense rivalry between the New England Patriots and the Indianapolis Colts. The San Diego Chargers upset the Colts last weekend however, to earn the right to play the Pats this weekend. So instead of the heated rivalry, what we are going to see is a chance for the Chargers to get revenge on the team that knocked them out of last year’s playoffs (mocked them afterwards), and then beat them handily 38-14 in Week 2 this season.
After last year’s playoff game, many of the Chargers players felt the team was disrespected by some excessive celebrating by the Pats, which included the mocking of linebacker Shawne Merriman’s sack dance along with some activities conducted on the Chargers logo on the field. Deserved or not, the way some of the Patriots handled themselves following that game is likely to give the Chargers some inspiration this weekend. The Patriots, will be looking to extend their unbeaten record into Super Bowl XLII, and they may have the advantage (not that they need one) of several key Chargers players being hobbled by injury. Most notably, running back LaDainian Tomlinson , quarterback Philip Rivers, and tight end Antonio Gates.
In the Pats win over the Jacksonville in the divisional round, quarterback Tom Brady was nearly perfect, completing 26-of-28 passes. In hindsight, it appears the Jags made a huge mistake in not putting enough pressure on him, often bringing just three men on the pass rush while dropping eight into “the box”. In my opinion, the way to beat the Pats is to consistently get to Brady by blitzing; knock him around a little, and get him off his feet. Otherwise, he will stand in the pocket and just pick you apart all game long. He may burn you a couple of times on the blitz, but it’s a chance you have to take. To beat the Pats, getting to Brady is one of the keys. Fortunately for the Chargers, they have a pair of outside linebackers in Shawne Merriman and Shaun Phillips who can do just that. To counter though, look for New England to go a little more to Laurence Maroney in the ground game, and run at both Merriman and Phillips to slow down their attack. Once they get the San Diego defense on its heals, it should open things up deep for wide receiver Randy Moss, and underneath for Wes Welker.
Just looking at the match-ups in this game, it doesn’t take a genius to figure out the Patriots have the edge basically everywhere on the field, except in the running game, and even there, there are questions about the health of LT, which could turn that into the Pats favor as well. With that being said though, the Pats can be beaten and in my opinion there are five keys to doing it…

Redskins vs Seahawks
Saturday, January 5, 2008 - 4:30pm ET
Washington Redskins at Seattle Seahawks -3.5
The 12th Man is something I think both teams will have to over come in this game. Seattle has what some say are the loudest fans in the game today and make it difficult for opposing teams to come in an win easily. Since 2003 the Seahawks are 33-7 at Qwest field in the regular season. On the other side of the ball since the passing of Sean Taylor (R.I.P.) the Redskins have rallied to a 4-1 record loosing only by 1 point to the Bills only days after the tragedy. Right now I think the 12th man of the Redskins will be a tad bit higher.
Usually when the book's make the spread they give a 3 point advantage to the home team. Through out this season the line on Seahawks games at home they have been only been favored by this spread once early in the season at that was against the Bengals when some thought the Bengals were good. This means that Vegas is looking at this game as a pick em to an extent. After some research both teams line up pretty good against each other.
